About the Summit

IEP Summit 2026 brings together editors, publishers, authors, academics, researchers, educators, technology companies and entrepreneurs to discuss how editors need to look beyond editing and act as entrepreneurs to increase their stake in the publishing ecosystem.

Editors as Entrepreneurs

The theme highlights the growing opportunity for editors to move beyond traditional roles and create new value through expertise, technology, innovation, consulting, content services and independent publishing ventures. While AI accelerates workflows, human judgment, editorial insight and ethical responsibility remain essential for trustworthy content.

Dr Vivek Mehra, Founder CEO, Vikramshila Research Pvt Ltd (https://www.linkedin.com/in/vivekmehra03/)

10.05-10.40 hrs

Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri, Editor-in-Chief, Om Books International (https://www.linkedin.com/in/shantanu-ray-chaudhuri-87009142/)

Copyediting is where a manuscript’s promise meets the reader’s experience. This address explores the craft’s essential principles, from language, accuracy, and consistency to preserving an author’s voice. It will also touch on how the copy editor’s role differs from that of the commissioning editor, while highlighting their shared responsibility for the finished book.

Mohit Odhikarry, Manager (Journals), Aptara (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mohit-odhikarry/)

Manuscripts differ; journals need fixed citation styles, novels arrive with no style sheet, edited volumes mix authors’ habits. AI now spots each style, or builds one for free-format submissions, applying rules to front matter, body, and back matter; copyeditors work faster, taking on once-unprofitable manuscript types, this conference’s entrepreneurial pitch.

A conventional editor’s role has undergone massive changes in the recent past; I would say, it started much before the arrival of AI. With AI coming in now, the pace of transformation has increased further. How do we, as editors, keep pace with what is happening around us to stay relevant? My talk would revolve around this subject by sharing my experiences as an editor.

Every freelancer struggles with deciding what to charge for their work. But most ask the wrong question to determine their rates: What do other freelancers charge? A so-called standard price—if it exists at all—does not take into account differences in individual circumstances. Using a common-sense approach, this session will offer listeners a mental model to determine rates that best suit the lifestyle and needs of the individual freelancer.

Session 9: The Red Pen Anthology Book Reading and Discussion

16.00-17.00 hrs
